A brand like Facebook or any other top company/university on your resume makes it easier to get jobs or attract high quality investors/cofounders in the future. That’s what I think at least. I’m at Facebook and I don’t see myself staying long term. Is a year enough to get the “prestige” of being an ex-facebooker on my resume? How long should I stay at minimum?
Yes
Are there no awesome teams in Facebook that you can transfer to?
The problem is that I joined as an enterprise engineer. EE develop internal business tools and get significantly less RSU than SWE. I got $55k grant. Transferring to SWE requires an interview loop and even then comp isn’t re-adjusted.
Dang that... really sucks
Did you get to E4? If just one year some would wonder if you were pushed out.
Yes, a year is enough if you just want to have FB on your resume.
One month is enough too 🤨
I was sde2 at Amazon and fb recruiter wanted me to interview for Enterprise engineer (entry level). I started laughing hard during the screening call. They might have blacklisted me. 😂😂 FB recruiters have no brains or try to act oversmart, not sure which though.
You didn't need to insult them. EEs are humans too.
I didn't insult them, clearly it wasn't the right fit for me. But recruiter wouldn't listen, and all this is during screening call. I have master's degree too. Not sure what their criteria for SE vs EE interview is.
I would suggest you to have at least 6 more months, collect your next bonus and see what’s the refresher you would get in March, then go out and interview. You can negotiate for a better package.
18 months minimum. Start interviewing at month 17, prep for interviews for a month or two before you start. Leetcode your way to higher tc.
It may give an impression that you might be under performaing and have may have been fired.
For fb I’d put in 2 years at least personally. Will reflect a lot better on resume and it’s not the worst place to work compared to 99% of other corps in America.
Enterprise engineer. (Basically a software engineer developing internal business tools)
That sucks. You don’t know what scaling and performance is all about? Get out of it.
