As the title mentioned, I'm having an offer to relocate to Sydney, base salary is 160k exclude superannuation, with stocks, sign on bonus. Is this a good one in Sydney? Should I accept right away?
What’s company and what role?
That's a very good salary for Australia , I hire mates in australia ! Good luck
Just don’t lie on resume, they put people in prison for that.
That was a govt job and the lady also hired her brother as her subordinate even though he was not qualified enough for the job
I'm an Australian and I've not seen much racism in the workplace. Many of my colleagues have been highly skilled Indians. That's a good salary but Syd is very expensive. The salary won't go far if you're renting inner west or city. I'd say go to Perth or Melbourne and the salary will go further.
Australia is a fine country! I hope to visit someday
160k base seems ok. What is the total comp?
It's a comfortable salary but if you want to buy during your relocation close to the city (inner West <30 mins commute) it will be tough to get a mortgage unless you have that part already settled. Others have mentioned racism - it isn't bad at all as long as you can speak English, respect and are willing to become part of the community you're fine. It's a young country and is very multicultural with Asians, Indians, European and Middle Eastern heavily represented. It is a HCOL but I imagine you are used to that coming from Singapore. Also, 160k base also has superannuation component (additional 9+% mandatorily paid by your employer). Source: born and raised in Sydney for 30 years now living in USA.
How much does it cost to buy property in Sydney?
>$1mm AUD close to CBD/downtown Sydney for a run down house. Would get you more house/newer construction the further you move away. For condos/units >$700+ AUD close to CBD/downtown Sydney. Your money, as others have mentioned goes alot further in cities like Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Sydney and Melbourne are the most expensive, but honestly, that's where you'd want to be.
Curious about why you plan to move from Singapore to Australia. I know some in US want to move so that they don't need to wait lifetime in Greencard backlog. Is it better wlb or something else?
I'm not Singaporean though, finding a country where I can settle
You’ll do well on 160k. Living solo within walking distance of CBD is doable with plenty to spare Source: did it on less
Depending on what you are earning right now. Taxes are quite high in Australia (~40%+). And Sydney is the most beautiful city in the world for me. So if you are white and young, go for it.
Not Sydney, Melbourne is.
Also, I don’t think they need to be white. As long as you have good English proficiency, there’s no racism as some people might say.
