Hi, I am in Atlanta right now. I make 150k cash. Pretty relaxed job. I have about 7.5 years experience. I am more curios like how much you save with 250k salary in SFO. In atlanta I save like 72k. Take home: 112k Expenses: Rent : 1300*12= 15.6k Other: 2000*12=24k Total Expenses = 39.6k ~ 40k Net saving = 72k How much guys with 250k salary in Valley save ?? I am debating if I should move to Silicon Valley. I think I can get 250k tc in Silican valley. I do not have any offers but just thinking about it before I interview.
How come you pay net 18.67% in taxes? What's the federal, state, and ssn %age?
Married I am only on working hhtps://www.smartasset.com/taxes/income-taxes#VnQN6FeilT
Georgia doesn’t do state tax either. California does.
Not SF, but im in Seattle with 250 TC. I take home 180. Expenses: Rent: 900*12=10.8k Other: 100*12=1.2k Total Expenses = 12k Net Saving = 168k I’m single and my company offers a ton of free shit that reduces my expenses. If I was in the bay, I’d be paying $500 more for rent and state income tax.
Where the hell are you living paying $900 in rent?
Thats what I was looking for thanks. But yeah your rent is cheap as hell also other expenses.
Also how can you live in 100 dollars a month you need car insurance, phone bill , i dont know eat out once in a while weekend gateway or ur campany pay everything
1. Don’t have a car 2. Company phone 3. Company pays for me to eat out once a week (FB BFF) and free food in the office. I just need to cover 3 meals a week.
I think the question isn't "how can you survive" but rather "how can you live." What life is worth living without any luxuries? Do you go home and watch twitch only, don't even pay for Netflix?
SfO makes sense to me if you stay in an RV and just save and invest the money. If you want quality of life balance, stay somewhere else.
You can save as much as you want, just trades off standard of living. plenty of young folks in Silicon Valley paying less than 1k rent by sharing housing.
You need 300k in SF to equal 150k in ATL if you factor in taxes and standard of living. 90k in ATL is like 200k in SF.
Yeah no. 200k in sf can leave you with almost 90k left after taxes and expenses.
If you max out retirement and have the same standard as living as in atl aka no roommates then you def won’t have 90k post tax
Give us a sense of what kind of place you live in and what misc expenses you have, then we can give you a more or less accurate picture. In general, 250k in SF nets you more than 150k in Georgia, but expenses will depend on your lifestyle.
Well I like in like middle tier apartment. Pretty good I would say eat out once in a nice restaurant. Do one 5 day trip every other month. Travel abroad 2 times for vacation. Thats about it
Eating out will be like 50% more expensive. Trips should be around the same. Rent will be +1-2k depending on whether you want to live in the city and how much commute you're willing to suffer. So after taxes and rent you'll get to keep like $120k in SFBA vs $90k in GA. However, there's a much better chance to make substantially more in a few years in the Bay, so take that into account.
It will cost you an extra $30k pre tax just to cover the rent differential if you want a decent one bedroom. So net of that you’d be looking at an extra $30k savings or so post tax which is what I save on $250k. You can seriously make that much as a SWE at Home Depot?
I am assuming you are in google pretty smart I bet they will pay you 200k easily if you come here.
And thanks for your reply this is so much better then other reply. So yeah probably 30k extra in rent which translates to at least 180k I need now i think tax is double so I will another 10k there. 190k. What about let say grocery and other things like eating out is it double the Atlanta? Like gas is double probably car insurance is expensive as well.
Consider quality of life as a factor too. I am planning to move out in a couple of years.
Don’t just look at the static data. Factoring opportunities that appear by just being here
Let say you have a kids, or are planning to, if you already live in the bay it’s effortless to switch jobs if something better is presented. However, if you had to move with kids, that’ll probably stop you from even considering taking interviews at these places.
I dont have kids planning may be next year wife is studing Full Stack in bootcamp.
