I used to love Airbnb and really hope they won't fail, but.... CFO quit, product is full of bugs, customer support is a joke, SF is cracking down on short term rentals, IPO isn't likely to happen soon. Are they about to collapse? After my last round of interactions I'm even more convinced they are heading for doom.... I've been using Airbnb for 5+ years as a host and guest so I'm familiar with their product. Airbnb recently had a bug that erroneously caused a reservation of mine to be canceled (as a host), they acknowledged the bug but didn't apologize for cancelling my reservation and are refusing to pay for my lost $. As a result I'm out hundreds of dollars and instead of having a real dialogue with me they respond by sending canned responses and then closing the support ticket. As if it's not bad enough they are loosing their SF supply due to recent SF laws, they are also loosing hosts due to their poor support (read their public host section re hosts not getting paid when damage occurs due to guests). Thoughts?
Lol.
Yes
I hate uber
You hate Uber because an employee from the company posted a legitimate question and frustration? Interesting logic 🤔
Wow, it didn't take long. Everytime someone criticises another company for a legitimate concern, a random blind user is vocal about "hating" their company. He didn't say "Uber is way better than AirBnB"
Is it bad that I prefer Booking.com too? Fun fact: company execs freak out about us using Blind.
LOL, Airbnb execs mentioned Blind in a meeting or something else?
Context please! What happened? 😮
Free version of Airbnb has been around since long before Airbnb - it’s called couchsurfing.
Version 2 is couch surfing with total strangers. Followed by the “genital manipulation” allegation in the inevitable police report.
You get what you pay for. Try surfing with a family.
Use Vacasa for vacation rentals. Much better experience!
VRBO is the best 👍🏻
Aren’t these apples to oranges? My city is not a vacation city. Most of the AirBnB rentals are of a utility nature. I have 2 units close to a large hospital and has good occupancy.
Maybe their valuation is too high.
Try to read beyond the headline 🤦
It is not. CFO leaving is bad but the biz is doing fine. In fact, I wish we burn more money instead of achieving profitability so early

$1.4M Net Worth - How am I doing?
Have you considered that AirBnB doesn’t serve SF alone? Or US? Also I’m certain if you read their terms you’ll find a clause that says they aren’t liable to reimburse for bugs/errors on their part. Not sure what you’re expecting here. Personally, I prefer booking.com. I do hate their FOMO tactics though.
"They aren't liable to reimburse for bugs/errors on their part" I don't use AirBnB a lot, but I don't get this approach. I think Amazon has proved that good customer service and keeping customers happy is worth a lot more in the long run. They will reimburse people all the time on AWS or marketplace for things that are not even their fault if the customers explain the situation and it's legit enough. Why wouldn't AirBnB reimburse if THEY made a mistake and it's THEIR bug? If it happened to me as a host or a customer, I would just stop using their service. Reimbursing a mere 50$ or even 200$ or w/e the cost is nothing in the long term if you keep that user for many years. Amazon probably has the same terms in their terms of services to protect themselves against abuse, but they will reimburse more often than not because they know it benefits them in the long term. Customer obsessed yo.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check out that site. Correct. They do not have to pay me, but I’d appreciate if at the very least they offered me some credit, an apology, hell even a real response from a human. Right now they are responding with canned responses and closing my case. Airbnb loosing supply on their home turf looks bad to hosts, guests, investors, and also employee moral in SF where most of their employees are centered. 2) SF is a robust, conference centric, tourist centric metropolitan city. Other similar cities (London, NYC, Paris, etc) notice what SF’s policies/regulations are and thus it has an effect on how other cities treat Airbnb. Local laws are affected by precedent from similar cities.
