Is Airbnb really a good place to work as a designer?
Is it just PR show or they do value you as a individual contributor?
It’s not somehow PR. Designers are much more valued than elsewhere. Look at the background of the founders to understand that.
Confirmed. We value designers so much, that we don’t even have an actual concrete design process that ensures designs are consistent, accessible, and implementable before they’re handed to product engineers!

A lot of design thought leadership comes from Airbnb, so I imagine it has a well respected and mature design culture. With that said, I personally wouldn’t work for them. They have some unethical business practices and policies like mandatory binding arbitration, which forces consumers to waive their constitutional rights to sue them - both individually or as class action. It’s bullshit. But you do you. We all gotta make bread and eat.
Probably depends on what you want. Couldn’t pay me enough to work there, but for others it’s probably heavenly.
