Apart from how it treats it's employees, is Amazon delivering good technology and inventions?
It's doing great
It is not doing great things, however has a solid business. Doing great things and making money don’t always go together
AWS is hosting a huge percentage of the internet. They are solving all the hard problems for other "tech companies". They're not selling advertising, taxis, hotels, but raw technology. The issue with Amazon is the culture.
Yes, we are doing great things: - aws: biggest cloud services provider in the world - retail: one of the most used online retail platforms in the world - Alexa: most popular voice assistant in the world - Twitch: most popular streaming platform in the world - audible: most popular audio book platform in the world And you can continue listing more products/services
Well the last 2 were acquired not too long ago so Amazon can't really take credit for those YouTube/Google for example. I still associate YT as its own entity
Alexa is not the most popular voice assistant. Siri and assistant are at the top: https://about.ads.microsoft.com/en-us/insights/2019-voice-report
Oh you know, same old same old: big cloud, big retail, big grocery, automated checkouts, drone delivery, robots in FCs, voice assistants, streaming, books, movies, games, business management, storage, music, home automation, etc.
AWS is fucking beautiful
You’re asking us to predict the future. Currently Amazon is only a 2 days to get my crap company for most people. Their other stuff can only be known with time whether it’s great or not.
What cave are you living in? Ever heard of AWS?
Yes I have, have an interview with em too. But, when you ask an average person “What does Amazon do?”, their answer won’t be “Deliver cloud services for many businesses and consumers alike.” It’s still too early to know of the impact of cloud computing anyways.
