Know Apple guys just sit in a bubble not knowing jack what goes on in other areas of their own company... but damn to not know a $50B+ giant that’s soaring right now is ?? How’s iPhone sales doing? You working on designing the SIM card push button?
Make sure the work is interesting and pushing boundaries. This typically means that you need to be in the core area of Cisco - switches/router development. Understand the architecture and become an expert in networks. Now with this experience, lots of cloud teams at fancier companies will reach out and offer shit loads of money. If Cisco recognizes that you are an expert, they will throw crazy money to keep you. At that point you can take your pick.
Don't go to Cisco and work on a BI team - that is not what makes money for them. This general approach is true for most enterprise companies. Pick the product that has the most revenue and make sure you kick ass. Don't aim to be a general software engineer at internet companies just because of high TC. Not saying that you can't become an ML expert by working at FB/G/LinkedIn/Uber - of course you can. But it's not like there are no good roles in big companies out there.
This prestige argument is like someone living in the US bashing someone living in India because there is rampant poverty. While true, if you look slightly deeper, many many people in India are much richer and happier than the general population of the US. But of course if you look at per-capita income, you will want to live in the US.
