Would an engineer grow quickly if they went to FB verses other companies? I don't mind working a lot of it gets recognized enough (amount of work is proportional to speed of growth and promotions). Would you say this is true?
True
What’s not to like. Got trump elected. Causes teen suicide.
Causes employee suicide too.
came here from google along with a lot of other xooglers. loving it a few years in. It's no jet, however Also funny when my goog friends stuck at L4 get pissed when they see i'm working better hours than they are with higher pay...=).
It’s not that groovy
Fb is very eng centric, so the opportunity is definitely there. The key is to find a good manager who will reward your effort
I'll be honest from what I've seen. Facebook is really good for new grads who want to grow really fast because it puts you under a fire and forces you to grow many important non technical skills alongside delivering stuff fast. Where it's kinda not great is in the quality of engineering and for people who prefer stronger engineering (at least this is my exp in product). You'll either level up really fast at fb or burn out fast lol.
Interesting. Does it mean the culture is “delivering more > writing unit tests”?
Depends on org. The bigger issue is lack of good documentation for large chunks of code base. Some companies do design docs. Fb does not
really appreciate the comments. Can I get more opinions too?
I feel like infra / Devx is what you should get into at FB. There are few places where you can work at the scale that FB does in these areas. I would’ve really recommend working on product @ FB anymore because it is mostly iterative and working with legal / privacy.
What?
huh?
