Most engineer i know get around 300k to 500k top. If director is only two hop away from IC, why the salary gap is so big? So from IC to manager there will be a salary huge jump? And another one from manager to director?
There are many kinds of directors - engineering, science and algorithms, ops, product etc and the ranges vary. S & A and Engineering tend to be on the higher side, so million+ average is not crazy. Also manager can have other manager as reports and directors can have other directors as reports, so title flatness does not apply to org flatness.
