Is PayPal really a global company?

I cleared all interviews and had call for offer discussion with PayPal. 2 days later they rejected over email saying that I don't have H1-B visa and they can't take risk of hiring me due to uncertainties in lottery. I am currently on OPT extension expiring mid this year (only one chance left for H1-B lottery).
Feeling disappointed. Had great hopes from global company like PayPal. Anybody from PayPal can help here?

That’s fucked up. How come your visa did not come up during your interview?

You should mention it going forward. Paypal has employees on H1B visas. Maybe the hiring manager does not prefer hiring someone on H1. Email the recruiter and see if they have a different position that you might be good for.

Yeah, it sucks to lose the opportunity to interview. But at least you will not waste your precious few months interviewing for roles that won’t sponsor a H1

These big companies will dump you for the slightest uncertainty in visa status. Go find 3 or 4 reliable consulting companies and apply 4 applications for H1B lottery through them. Once you get it, by October 1 you are ready to jump ship to any so called “global” company. Once u have the h1b these “global” companies will start liking you more.

I am fine working internationally. I am fine moving back to India as well. I don't have any preference of location.

It is a global company but the H1Bs are prone to uncertainty . Ideally you or the recruiter could have brought this up earlier in the process to avoid this situation . Are you sure your interviews went really well ? Maybe they just wanted to let you down gently. PayPal is a global company but it costs the company a lot more money to move people to other countries when their H1B doesn’t come through . I know of colleagues who’ve had to be moved to other countries for this reason. But they want to minimize this risk and the associated expense to move people abroad and then back to the US. I know it’s hard for you to see this now , but that’s the reality.

In the same boat. I was upfront about my situation with other companies and they told me, they will interview me in June if I get selected in lottery. With a starting date of October. Very few companies want to play the lottery game. Good luck .
