I see forbes has ranked then #1 last year and #2 the year before..
What specific tech / space is SalesForce innovating in ? Not sure CRM per se has to much scope for improvement..
To SalesForce employees: what do you think ? Can you point to any cool piece of tech / open source from SalesForce to demonstrate ?

I think its the way the sell. These salespeople really make things look good, like the service will solve your marital problems and get you laid whenever you want kinda shit

Yeah.. I hear the "sales" force at SalesForce is good.. but I do see almost every startup and some decent sized companies using SalesForce - so I do believe the product has something going for it..
Anyway, being a SalesForce employee, isn't there anything positive you can talk about your employer?

I believe the real reason behind is switching and training cost to move sales folks into another tool is too high. Most sales are familiar with salesforce because they were forced to use it as company system. That doesn't make salesforce the best product/user experience.

Im not being negative at all, i’m saying these guys can sell and that ability makes this company look good more than anything. Another noteworthy thing is their constant attempts to integrate (although sometimes futile) new and acquired products to enhance the crm experience. Sometimes it sucks, but if it succeeds one out of 4 times it’s going to sell!

Look at Forbes POV, they dont know sfdc trade secrets, so they base it on the impact on customers. It just makes sense that if the customer thinks it’s rocket science, it may as well be

I feel like it is getting less innovative by the second. This is a total ‘pay to play’ award....

Forbes explains what they mean by 'innovation'. It's some sort of bs math based on market impact and market size.

This has nothing to do with how innovative the leadership/product is

I'd say market size and market impact is a pretty good proxy for innovation no ? Atleast it's an objective measure..
People call Facebook "innovative" - their food products are either acquired (WhatsApp, Instagram). Their main application is definitely NOT innovative - they just sell ads.. but they do it really well.

I think it's a very different idea of innovative than what I (and my coworkers) think innovation is. We think it means making fancy new things, but here it is:
Calculated by projecting a company's cash flow from it's existing business and looking at the net Net Present Value. This base value is compared to the Enterprise Value (no idea what that is).
      Innovation = EV - NPV

I work in security at salesforce. It’s not just the tech that’s awesome, people around me are awesome too. It’s not the place, but the people.

Coming to the tech, it’s not just CRM anymore. They have plenty of tools (service cloud, marketing cloud, commerce cloud, trailhead etc.). I believe there are some hardcore programmers. But my interactions were with average coders who are trying to build cool stuff taking their own sweet time. My past year at salesforce, I learned that they are trying to make things easier for businesses to sell their products with a bunch of tools (to summarize). So may be they are innovative that way.

There’s some great stuff in AI happening that isn’t playing a boardgame. Stuff like classifying customer service cases and segmenting email subscribers. Basically actually applying ai to business usecases. It’s actually not vaporware. I don’t see that a lot elsewhere and I feel like most ai projects are just useless stunts. I think salesforce is a very practical and extremely well executed company. The engineering org is actually really lean, and then the sales and marketing really know how to sell the shit outta anything.

Um, we are just slapping "AI" onto everything. True AI is not segmenting and classifying cases. We have no idea what we are doing when it comes to AI, it is just a sales pitch at this point.

Joined Salesforce a year ago. I see some positives here, but innovation is not the strength. Any one who wants to get better in playing politics, this is the best place to sharpen the skills..work life balance is good, attention to community is good.

It by innovative, they mean ‘has acquired every product from recent memory,’ then yes.

It’s a Frankenstein platform, and each of the pieces (looking at you Pardot, Einstein) are half-baked at best.
