Silicon Valley is overpriced and crowded by tech giants. What are the top cities with startup env (outside of Silicon Valley)? 2 questions: 1. I heard Ostin/Atlanta are developing their tech communities pretty fast. Thoughts!? 2. What do people think - is this a trend to move to new tech hubs?
Seattle. Austin. Boston.
Nowhere else in the world is even remotely close when it comes to the startup environment. This is where angel and VC money lives so despite the fact of it being overcrowded and overpriced, that’s not likely to change. That being said nothing stops you from starting a company elsewhere. The same network just doesn’t exist outside of Silicon Valley though.
Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Austin, Boston, Atlanta.
Yes, SV jumped the shark
Yes. Ostin City, Isengard is growing fast.
Atlanta has some tech but it doesn't compare to bay area, Seattle or NYC. There are a few startups but Atlanta doesn't feel as exciting for Tech. The biggest tech employers in Atlanta are Mailchimp, Statefarm, the telecom companies, NCR which dont exactly scream big tech. But it is actually a great place to work if you're nearing the end of your career! The work culture in Atlanta is generally laid back and CoL is pretty low.
Yes. “Progressive” policies are killing the golden goose. It’s going to take time, but major future expansions and growth will be outside the Bay Area.
It’s already happening if you look at where the big tech companies are adding headcount. There’s more being added outside the bay then in
It’s expensive because it’s successful. If any region becomes as successful as SF Bay Area it will become as expensive.
It’s expensive because housing policy does not incentivize and allow tall, high density housing. Residential high rises are either prohibited entirely or have so many added fees and below market rate requirements they aren’t possible to build.
NYC has high density housing. Is it cheaper ?
Boston, lot of brilliant upcoming engineers from MIT, Harvard, BU, BC,Tufts. Their college projects turned into startups near Cambridge. Probably, Atlanta and Austin come next.
