Honestly if the employers are no longer loyal to you (their obligation is to shareholders) then why should you be loyal?

If it is never your company to begin with, why should you be loyal?

Let me ask you this. If you get 50% more tc elsewhere, would you still stay?

Been doing this work crap for 18 years: I honestly know no one (besides founders and government-types) who really has any semblance of job satisfaction — so if you’re going to be miserable you may as well get paid for it.

25% bump in TC can be meaningless if it means you need to go from 40 to 50 hour work weeks, or if it means double the amount of stress... I think it all depends.

If TC was not important, leetcode will be out of business.

I've gotten kind of addicted to leetcode, I suspect I'll keep leetcoding even if after I get a fang offer.

I never made decisions based on TC (Yet), but it's becoming much harder as TC went up so much. I spend most of my day at work and I prioritize how much I enjoy the work, am I learning & growing and, most importantly, how's my manager and team

Optimizing just for TC is, in my opinion, a bad short sighted strategy. Demonstrating your worth is the best way to quickly progress in your career and improve your TC. This only works when you are excited about the work that you do (at least for me)

It's a good metric as it's easy to measure. How else can you evaluate your professional fulfillment and progress? TC is a reasonable evaluation but I wouldn't call it everything either

Of course, you will hit a serious career roadblock as an IC after age of 40. Makes sense to accumulate maximum wealth before that.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. This is precisely the reason I have been hustling on the job market.

TC is everything to blinders, for sure. Personally I think TC contributes to happiness up to a point

TC is a factor in job quality. Anyone who pretends it’s the only factor is an idiot.

I just switched to another job that I like for 15% hike in the new TC

The question is, why wouldn't you try?

If you can get more TC at a company, and you don't know in advance if the new role is worse or requires longer hours etc, why not try?
