Nope, Airbnb, Uber, Lyft, Amazon, eBay profits are coming from people using these companies technologies. They do not invest into having apartments to rent out, taxis to drive and etc. WeWork is making money charging people for using real estate WeWork rent, design and maintain.
Depends what you consider a tech company. For example, Facebook is officially recognized as a social media and advertising company, not a tech company. Obviously WE all consider Facebook a tech titan, let alone a tech company. But that doesn't mean it's their official listing.
Your definition is too simple and cannot capture many other dimensions.
According to this: Uber, Airbnb, Ebay, Paypal, Netflix, none are tech company. But everyone considers them tech company. They’re fundamental part of Silicon Valley and other tech hubs. Venture capitalists, journalists, software engineers, politicians, general population, all consider them as tech companies.
