TL;DR: Would you commute an extra 2 hours a day for your dream company and 15k more? Assuming this is your dream company and the TC will be ~15k higher than the 2nd option (which has an average commute), would you choose a job with a 1.5 hour one-way commute that allows WFH a few times a week? Why or why not? I don't have much experience in commuting so I'd like to get some insight. Thanks! Previous TC: 150K Expected new TC: 315K YOE: 3
Depends on how you commute. If you drive, then no. If you take shuttle/caltrain, then yes.
CalTrain has no wifi but I was thinking of tethering
2x TC and ~315k at 3YoE 😯 howww? Had a PhD?
Depends on if you are taking Uber or Twitter. You can still take the 280 and start early to save time
What do you mean start early? Do you mean leave home early to beat traffic? Thanks! Edit : I misread, I get what you mean now haha
Done it, strongly recommend against. It drains you. Music, audiobooks, and podcasts all help, but you still feel it and it hits every part of your life. $15k isn't worth it once you're in 300k range. I *would* move closer for dream company though
+1
Thanks for your insight! I was thinking of maybe bringing my Switch and just playing games if I take the train
OP do you mind sharing offer details? What companies are paying 300k TC for 3YoE?
I did commute 75-90mins each direction back in Europe by car for 5 years. It's ok for the right job. My reason is, I'm used to live in a large house with enough land to have some privacy. I'm looking into this in Canada now. I don't want to live in a condo much longer.

Is it even worth for me to jump to a new job with higher TC?
You mean 150k more? Hell ya.
No, just about 15k. There's a 2nd offer that's closer but 15k less in TC
Okay I had to read your “300-315k” again. Hmm How about the wlb in general? If terrible I wouldn’t take the job. Where I work now I generally work 5 hours a day plus commute either way 1 hour and that’s enough...
