I heard the company has been doing a beta in Boston for a little while now and wanted to see if anyone has tried it out yet. Pretty lofty claims: up to 200 Mbps up and down for $50 a month, no contract, and the connection is transmitted wirelessly. The company's founder is Chet Kanojia, whose previous company Aereo was essentially shot down by the cable industry.
I should have it by the end of this month. They are still rollin it out in Boston.
Looks pretty cool, no service in my area yet but signed up to be notified. I'm currently paying $45 for 150mbps internet only through RCN so it's not a huge difference in terms of price and speed.
How have you been liking RCN?
Pretty good. I see sustained download speeds at like 13-14MB/sec and the bill is literally $44.99 as advertised.
I don't use the service per se, but I did purchase their router, which I must say is amazing.
They're doing a beta, but it's still a building by building thing (just like webpass). Seems like the "stick it in your window" version of things is still a ways off unfortunately.
What is the latency like? You could have 1Gbps in bandwidth but if the latency is shit it doesn't matter.
Cool that people are liking this post, but I'm looking for answers!
