How do the big 4 compensate their auditors? What is the entry level base? Do the big 4 accounting firm pay you enough for the long hours to be worth it?

Throwing around TC as a comparison is dangerous given how overvalued tech is. November was just a dress rehearsal.

Not worth it all all. Pick a new profession. New programmers get $150k out of college. $250 at top tier tech companies. New auditors get $60k and need masters degree for a cpa and advanced positions

Yea I would recommend that too but I don’t think software can be innately picked up by most people (ie.. would fail out of basic c class at university sadly)

I think it is a good stepping stone when your young(before it was partner or bust as a career track but I heard that an associate partner was created) ... note that everyone who used it as a stepping stone and moved into private corporate were infinitely happier

They make terrible money. Big four business model is to churn through a bunch of college grads making 60k, work them 80 hours a week till they quit, and get a fresh batch of wide eyed kids for the next audit season.

The dynamic range of a good vs mediocre audit pales in comparison to an engineer so there is less superstar mentality ( connections matter a lot but if you can become a director of accounting at a tech start up it is not that bad if u do not have a knack for technology)

I started as a staff accountant at Verizon Corp Finance. I've been here over 4 years and been promoted to consultant. Should I switch to public accounting? People normally do the opposite

You are in Verizon NYC? How is your current compensation?

NYC is their marketing tax and executive hub. Verizon Finance is in Florida. Base 68 with 12% bonus. They normally realize 98 to 99% of bonus

Honestly I’m an auditor at a top 10 firm. I make more money than a friend who works BIG 4 and I work less. From what I’ve heard, big 4 you get really good at one or two areas. As a almost third year staff, I’m in contact with clients, writing FS, etc. BIG 4 gives to contacts but I’d say TOP 10 gives better experience.

Not that bad meaning the actual tc which i see being thrown is like a middle pack engineer who is probably still super smart

Big 4s are like schools. You will learn a ton and make connections. Just don’t care too much about salary at early career
