Is business school worth it?
I'm 28 and debating whether I should go to business school. I've been at my job for a year, and I'm happy, but I wonder if b school will help me get better at strategy and give me the skills I need to progress in my career. The idea of giving up two years of salary is daunting, but there are part time options too that seem promising.
If you go to top 5 MBA programs in US, worth every cent. Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Kellogg, Wharton. Rest of the program, not sure. London school of economics and Insead/France are two other good ones. Focus on learning new skills and networking opportunities with Alumni. If you are super sharp and have tremendous self belief, you can invest that money on your venture. No MBA, gain the skills by running a startup. Part time is not worth it, it’s just for paper and beefing up your resume, instead of really understanding/applying. Best of luck.
Yeah, I would say top 10 is good.
I completed my MBA from a top 25 program remotely at Apple while working full time. My opportunity cost of stopping work for a traditional MBA program exceeded $750k. I have many friends who have left Apple for Top 5 b-schools who are lucky to make what most of us do excluding the opportunity cost. The alumni network you gain access to is the most valuable part of an MBA IMHO.
Do you feel the MBA degree you got remotely is worth your time? Do you believe you are in a better place now career wise after MBA? How much was the cost? I heard many people advising not to do MBA unless it is full time.
for years I heard the argument of alumni access. In today's day and age ,building your diverse network does not require high priced club entry type MBAs. I'd say find a way to join top 4 consulting firm and work for 2 years. That's better networking and exposure.
Most business schools aren’t preparing you for tomorrow, at best they are preparing you for today which will be outdated by the time you graduate. Night classes to get a degree aren’t a bad idea but make sure your doing practical learning as well and always looking for what’s the NEXT trend in business.
