Is it okay to job hop for a better "brand" until you get to a FANG company? E.g. say your job hopping progression is as follows: 6 months in your first ever job at a small IT solutions company -> 1 year at a mature mid sized company -> 9 months at a Fortune 500 -> 1 year at a Tier 2 tech company -> get into a FANG Its clear the rule of thumb to stay 2-5 years per SWE role is definitely something to be respected once you work at a FANG. However it OK to ignore that rule of thumb if you are being contacted by "better" companies every 6 months to a year and and manage to get an offer to move somewhere objectively better? Once you hit a FANG level company then you retire in Himalayas after realizing it wasn't worth it.
Just LC harder and get referrals to FANG
Meh, I did so much lc. It's easy. Getting referrals though seems almost impossible (imo).

No. A few reasons 1. First N months as a SWE are spent ramping up. You work for 9 months at a company, that's basically 3 months of real work, which rounds to 0. 2. Last N months as a SWE are your most productive. You spend 4 years at a Fortune 500, you now know the execution tricks and how gained the trust needed to lead large projects. Moving to a new company resets your clock. 3. Your examples resume looks like you got PIPed and fired everywhere you went. It's a major red flag. Or it looks like you don't know what you want. Or, it looks like you just take the signing bonus and run. Or, it looks like you had 4 years of the same experience over and over. I'd want a serious explaination on your work history before I'd want you on my team.
NO. Your progression is fine until 1 year at mid size company. After that isnt practical.
Homie just go straight to the FANG
No. LC and try as many times as you can to get into FANG. Nobody cares
I went to FANG with a 18 months of very small shop exp, with 2 seperate companies. What matters is skill, and practicle exp of skill. Understand that doesn't mean you will max your offer from a FANG company either.
9 years from fortune 20 mean nothing to fang
Why bother? More leetcode is required, not job hopping.
Leetcode is what you use to pass the interview, but your resume is what gets you the interview, no? Don't better brands make you a shinier object for recruiters?
I got Google and Amazon interviews with one small unknown company on my resume.
