I got offers from MS Azure Compute team and NVDIA. Both are in Redmond office in Great Seattle area. Now I tend to join MS considering the company brand and career growth. Will it be a good decision for career growth and potential money. MS level is 63 and NVD level is IC4. The total comps are very similar (NVD's base and sign on are a little more than MS)
I would argue Nvidia has more headroom to grow. Going from 200-400B is easier than 600-1.2T
I’m talking about scope of technology and the problems to solve.
Custom ASICs purpose built for artificial intelligence workloads not interesting enough for you?
My offer is not the AI/deep learning team. It is a new team like cloud game... If it is AI/deep learning, I think I will choose NVD.
Cloud gaming is an awesome concept and I don’t see any potential major competitor to Nvidia in the market. Nvidia is going to make $$$ on this
What are you more interested in doing?
Nvidia is cool. Microsoft appears to be improving. You have two good choices.
IC4 at Nvidia is not L63 at Microsoft. It’s more like L61-62. Eve though pay at Nvidia might be comparable or even better. But scope wise or responsibility it will be rather junior position. Ask for at least IC5. Mention you have L63 Mucrosoft offer.
Is IC4 a senior role in NVD? In the offer I was offered a senior SDE title. They gave me 400 RSU units (HR said around 90k) which is less then MS. HR told me NVD has yearly bonus but did not mention how much.
I was L65 at Microsoft and came to Nvidia at IC7. Not sure how exactly IC4 is classified. Good that they started to issue RSUs for IC4 since when I was there they were not doing it. It was only base and that was it. At lest this is what my coworkers at IC4 were telling me.
Nvidia does not have yearly bonus FYI. They started giving rsu which are peanuts m.
MS if only because the stock is less volatile. NVDA is a high risk overpriced stock. Also depends on how much of your comp is in stock... Anyway the specific team is probably more important
I’d probably choose Microsoft by a hair. Both are great companies though.
Go for Microsoft. The scope is larger.
