Are non-US citizens even allowed to sign petitions like the below : https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/do-not-pass-bills-s386-or-hr1044-do-not-pass-bills-s386-or-hr1044-us-worker-and-racial-diversity https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/pass-hr1044s386-fairness-high-skilled-immigrants-act I saw lots of twitter posts supporting either of the 2 above and asking people to sign the above. The website allows anyone to sign with email verification but is it not only supposed to be for US citizens? What are the repercussions? TC : Peanuts
Anyone can sign those petitions, knock yourself out. It's your patriotic duty!
What about visa holders?
Even foreign citizens with no visa.
It's a free country (supposedly)....
Different laws for citizens and non-citizens.
Learn the laws of land you live in. Heard of 1st amendment?
"Is it legal to brush my teeth without asking my congressman for permission?"
I am asking for visa holders. Not citizens. When you say 'my' congressman, that implies for citizens right?
This is America, stop asking for permission for everything and enjoy the liberties while you still can.
Don't stake your immigration status on something so small; check somewhere more reliable than Blind before you sign
Yes, dont knwo where to go though. Also, not sure what one should do if signed. There should be a way to retract signature but would have to call congress or something. What if something like this is seen as misrepresentation. Really worried.
Signing or not signing makes zero difference. So why care?
To get voice across.
Across to whom? If you meant voice across to void then yes! There is a good reason it's void. This site was created by Obama and obviously the current administration doesn't care about it a bit. It's a lonely place where all petitions are signed in their echo chamber and everyone feels good having done something without moving the issue a bit. The best analogy someone gave me when (at some point in the past) I believed in petitions was to push the stopped car from the comfort of your car seat. Feels good you worked hard - doesn't move the car an inch. Besides petitions are worth less when they aren't vetted. Change.org doesn't, obviously. Don't believe me? There are tons of petitions on this site with 100k votes with no response. These petitions are worth less than the tissue paper used to wipe your ass. At least those tissue have a purpose. These petitions - absolutely 0!
When I was living in Canada (born citizen), I especially disliked people, immigrant or foreigners, who tried to interfere in the Canadian democratic process. As a non immigrant (soon immigrant) to the US, I consider it is my duty to especially not interfere. I have opinions. I just keep them for myself.
OP has a point. Every single US immigration forms asks you if you have ever claimed yourself to be a US citizen. It doesnât describe specific details about where and for what but lying there is a felony and this situation here can be hold against you as are signing something claiming yourself as citizen.
Anyone in the whole world can sign. It's your opportunity to give input to the US government :)
Itâs a petition, itâs not legally binding
Right but if it is only meant for US citizens, I feel like visa holders signing could carry huge repurcussions
