I have a new boss who asked me to transition all that I do to another new guy. She said I would be given new roles after the transition. I did exactly that and the new guy is using most of the models I developed.

On my one on one last week she said I should work myself out of this job. What does that mean? Does she want me to leave?

I do this at every job. I build systems that don't need to be maintained, and grow engineers around me so I'm no longer needed. And then I move on

What should I do and what should I say to her? My former boss was removed last month. He blocked my going to another job and another group twice.

J/k I’m missing some context and have no idea what you’re boss meant. Maybe she knows you want to leave and and is helping you along? Dunno

I would ask for clarification on what that meant exactly.

I guess she’s keeping me as long as the new guy can stabilize. Again the company does not like to fire because of social media blowback. I think I can last until January when another appraisal is due. By then there is nothing to appraise me on. So I will leave when I get a good job out there.

Well I hope she meant that you should seek a new challenge but if not thats not good leadership at all and I would at a minimum talk to HR about it.

They used PWC digital fitness app to score every employee. My score is 291/400. Company average is 200 and my group average is 197. Why is my group trying to push me out?

Sounds like managing out done wrong. Firing someone is something that most managers/companies will try to avoid, so suggesting someone that their situation os dire, and to better look for another job makes things easier for everyone (you are given time to look for a job and are not fired, manager doesn’t have to deal with the situation of walking someone out and company avoids legal issues).

In your situation, I’d talk to her again and I’d ask how much time do I got to find a new place. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can still turn things around, the decission has already been made to let you go, sorry. Use your time wisely to find a new place.

Sorry to hear, but I would not like to continue to work at such place and with such leadership.

There are tons of opportunities out there, prepare and start interviewing.

    Good luck.

Google "work yourself out of a job". This phrase has been used in the self-improvement arena for years. It's a means to greater success. It sounds like you are overthinking her words instead of using this opportunity to reach greater heights.

That is some BS right there. It sounds like she is trying to get you to quit. I would be sorely tempted to go over her head and let them know who really setup the new guy for success.
