Have been at MS for 3.5 years. I am comfortable in my current job, but it has started to get a tad repetative and my TC is depressing (according to blind standards) I am looking for some advice on changing jobs. Ex ms people who moved to FB, AMZN, Google, elsewhwere. How are you all doing? Are you happier? Is the leetcoding- pain worth it? TC 150
Absolutely
RLY, Bloomberg? How does it feel shipping for 300 people?
What is your level at msft?
The comp gap is so depressing. I’m looking forward to my imminent future of LCing and not living this summer. I guess we’re both going to have the same kind of summer, huh?
Let's do it together bruh!. But I don't wanna jump from a frying pan into the fire. Heard some pretty scary shit from people who moved to AMZN. PIPs and what not.
AMZN can be a brutal place depending on your team and SDM. I used to intern there for a few summers. I had both awesome and crappy teams and managers. I wouldn’t consider AMZN seriously. It’s hard to make it into the Sr band there, though I’ve heard it’s gotten slightly easier. But yea we need like a secret LC Club to motivate and support each other
Made the move a while back myself. Wlb is worse at FB but you get paid much more handsomely here so your choice. Learning is faster and you feel closer to the cool kids in the valley. In general this was one of the best career decisions I have made. In a few years when I have kids and enough money, I may move back to msft to chill out and enjoy family life, but not now when I am still excited sometimes by tech and still want to do some meaningful shit
If you don't mind what was your TC before and what is it now?
It was a 40% raise
MS is good if the only thing you want is nap at you desk. If you want to make money go somewhere else.
Don’t listen to others it is not worth it. TC 162 is not bad in Seattle at all where there is no state and col is still not as high as nyc etc. Assuming you get 230 elsewhere, is it worth the commute, long hours and micro management culture?. You may pull off for 1 year of 2 but in the end you will burn out and will start looking out. A better option is try and get to 63, show your impact and climb the ladder at msft itself
Fb and google have local offices in Kirkland/Seattle, so OP wouldn’t need to move elsewhere
Commute to Seattle downtown can take 45 mins to 1 hour from eastside assuming op lives on the east.
Google is totally worth it and wlb is pretty good in there. Not sure about amzn and fb though
Years of experience?
3.5
160k tc seems decent for 3.5 yeo. What do u think u should be making then?
I was L64, 168k base so TC=217k. Moved to E5, 190k base so TC=339k. Preparing was a pain but 50k+600k sign-up almost made me forget it, LOL. Work is better in every possible way. Larger autonomy, everything moves faster, people in general help you get stuff done. You can change any code, so dependency management becomes a completely different game. Stuff that would take weeks in MS takes days here. Office is great, food is amazing. I love all the whimsical stuff like memes in code reviews, flappy bird easter egg in the conf room door displays, bots with attitude, etc. Commute sucks from Eastside compared to MS. The shuttle is nice though and you can work, read, some people play videogames. Overall, haven't thought about going back for a second.
I feel you bro

Can you elaborate more? What specifically is better, apart from the TC of course?
