I’ve been lifting on and off for a few years but never stuck to it consistently. I got my form critiqued by several powerlifters and got good pointers, although they said overall my form was good. I’m just wondering if its worth taking classes with a PT for a few months to make sure my technique is absolutely perfect so I don’t hurt myself, or if I should keep asking random dudes in the gym for advice.
Only if you find a PT that is a powelifter. Most other PTs don't know what they're talking about.
I’m looking specifically at powerlifting gyms in SF. I’m assuming instructors there know what they’re doing.
I think you should be safe. Why not just try it out?
Some PTs are clueless. You can become a PT in a week of training which is just memorization of various things. Checkout Thumbtack app for PTs that actually have clients who have shown results.
I also found my trainer on thumbtack, good advice. Best investment I ever made was hiring a trainer.
I’d be looking for a NSAC certified coach with a decent track record of coaching successful athletes, rather than a random PT.
Worth it if you can find a good one. They not only teach you technique, but also help push your limits. Most of them will offer a free session...take advantage of that. Hard to find ones that are good and won't cost you an arm and a leg though
Unless you're going to a powerlifting gym or your trainer has a history of competing in powerlifting, then dont waste your money. Most trainers at LA Fitness, Equinox, etc are morons.
This is where I am at. I want to make more money mainly to hire a good personality trainer
