I kind of want to try it out but I feel like after a couple months the novelty will wear off and it will be like living in any regular apartment. I would be living by myself and it would be in Seattle. Also I'm not planning to buy a house anytime soon so I have nothing to really save for right now. TC:195k
Moved into a luxury apartment a little over a year ago. Definitely worth the extra money if you can truly afford it. It’s just the basic shit that makes such a huge difference: Having someone sign/store my packages Gym 150ft from my apartment makes me go more often Pool/rooftop/community center makes entertaining friends much more enjoyable In unit laundry means I don’t have to worry about leaving my clothes in the laundry room Dishwasher saves me time Automatic thermostat keeps me at the exact temperature I want year round. In fact, it changed my perspective on owning real estate (I previously owned a condo). I now think it makes more sense to live in luxury apartment in the area you want to live in and own rental property in a much more affordable area. I think people will come to the same conclusion after the next real estate market correction. I would go back to a “regular” apartment if I needed to, but I think luxury is the way to go if you can easily afford it.
TC is too low
Yes. If only to help weed out and mitigate exposure to the low rent tenants.
What is luxury apt to you? Seattle and Bellevue have 1bdr apts in luxury buildings for under $3k - you can easily afford that with your TC.
The "luxury" apartments above the new SLU Google office are $3800 for 700sqft, 1 bedroom
Ew
In SF there is no such thing as a “regular” apartment. The marketplace consists of new buildings and run-down unmaintained walkup apartments. It costs 5-10% extra for a builder to add luxury features that command 30% higher rent, so there is zero new construction of “regular” apartments other than those mandated for families earning less than about $75K. So in SF at least, the choice is between slums, luxury, or 90-minute commutes to “regular” suburbs.
Yes if you get a roommate. Roommate is worth it. I live in one now, and have before as well.
You live in a roommate ?
I don't want to live with a rando though. Would rather pay extra to live alone.
💵 🔥 this is a really stupid financial decision
There's not really much of a difference between a luxury and non luxury apartment. Save the money.
What defines a luxury apartment?
just make sure you can still hit your savings goals to become financially independent
