Is it worth moving to Google from Facebook for 20% TC hike?

F->G
Seattle ->Mountain View.
$265k- >$320k
E5->L5

Compared TC in smartasset. My take home is going up only 20k and that will be compensated for cost of living.

Hardware org. solutions architect role. similar role and job responsibilities. I feel, I established myself very well in my team and tech leading in Facebook for last two years with GE, EE and EE. Moving towards manager role here. Have to start from scratch in G.

    Yes.
    Bay area > Seattle
    Google > Facebook
    COL difference (even after accounting for state tax absence in Seattle) is not big.
    320K for L5 is a bad offer though. Negotiate.

      Am not a swe. Hardware engineering org, though I design solutions, do coding for hardware related apps. I always have my doubts I am paid fair. Google TC somehow answering that question.

      Would not listen to LinkedIn. Big COL difference in MV. Bay Area is much more expensive. If he is jumping, he needs much more than 320. I turned down goog for fb for less money - way faster promos and earning potential in FB

    U will live better on 265 in Seattle vs 320 in mountain view. But u can live comfortably in both so go with whatever will make you happier long term.

      Only perspective I ( and everyone) could see is Facebook reputation falling through due to recent events and google might be better for long term. But that’s not so solid reason for me.

      Reputation can swing on a dime - go to the place that treats you the best with healthy financials

    Yep, take a 20k cut if it gets you to the bay.

    • Mind explaining why? I ask because I have the opportunity to switch companies and can either end up in the Bay Area or NYC. Not sure which to choose

      Both are awesome! If you are career centric bay is probably for you (I'm assuming you are younger) if you are life centric (and single) nyc.

      😄😄 That’s the other factor I could think of but not enough solid reason for move.

    • I’d rather be in the south where the dead stay dead
