Is not showing up to work for 10h30 scrum because it is too early a lack of respect for your teammates?

I want to know if it's ok for me to be pissed at lazy teammates.

Edit: I deliver at least twice as much as them with similar YOE.

Once in a while: no, shit happens

Continually missing standup week after week: yes, it’s disrespectful

I’ve been on teams where standup is a joke and nothing productive comes out of it. In those cases, missing standup really didn’t affect anyone’s sprint commitments.

If the standup is a joke instead of skipping the standup the team should figure something more productive out

Then you should tell your teammates why the standup is a joke

Is anybody from a standup really going to help debug or do your work?

I'm in HW, but the same meetings happen and just seem to be:
progress -> note -> OK, next?

Too little Data. Do the teammates finish their work and do a good job? If the manager doesnt mind thats a sign you shouldnt care. Flexible timing is a pro in our industry.

Flexible timing doesn't mean blowing people off.. They should have let op know to reschedule

11-12 is more ideal for standups.

Why do others think it's ok to thwart one's morning schedule? Let people work in their most creative hours and meet during the crap slow times before/after lunch

I use late arrivals as the first reason to remove people from the team. If someone can’t show up at 10:30 to greet co-workers with a smile then it is impossible to know what instruction they will follow.

This is a bad mentality as well, you don’t know how bad someone’s commute was one morning

Lol too many angry managers out there. You remind me of an old manager I had several years ago

Do you mean the kind of manager that dares put minimal expectations on people?

I’m a lady - so I guess that makes me a “new manager”?

      I certainly feel like one.

I broke the glass ceiling. And I put expectations on people. Even when those people cant understand why. That’s how it’s relevant.

"Come to office in time" would be an OKR for everyone on your team 😀 you better set that expectation before some one joins your team instead of firing them afterwards. Of course you would have difficulties finding ppl.

Of course you let people know expectations and give them a chance to meet them. Do I write like some kind of management monster?

      *dont answer that

Why not teleconference standup? Its just a status report. I always drive in during our 10 AM standup. And then my commute counts as working hours.

      No fair hiding during standup!

If you do then what do you call that kind of meeting? A hide-out?

What is the employment agreement between your teammates and workplace? Perhaps you all should talk about setting common hours, and setting meetings within it.

Scrum is a giant waste of time for any team of motivated engineers who do good work. Whenever there are ambiguities, people with initiative discuss and resolve them on their own.

That being said, blowing it off completely or consistently showing up late would get you fired at some of my (shortsighted) past employers.

I’ve seen companies use standup as a time for PMs and managers to stroke their ego and micromanage the team

10:30 for Morgan Stanley seems late. If people can't make it to a 10:30 meeting, maybe they have a 2 hr commute
