Just saw it on my new offer letter that “the employment relationship can be terminated by either you or COMPANY X for any reason, at any time, with or without prior notice or cause.” The statement above doesn’t sound like PIP to me, is that normal?
It has nothing to do with pip. This is at-will employment and is very common in the US, tech or not.
That clause is called Employment At Will, which basically means what it says. It has nothing to do with PIP. PIP is company's own thing, not a legal thing. You are put on PIP if you are considered incompetent by your management, and under most circumstances this is just a grace period for you to find another gig and bounce. At Will, however, means if you did something really egregious, your company can fire you immediately and kick you out in an hour. Of course vice versa you have the same right to resign and leave immediately
Not every company, in Snap they’ll fire you immediately without any notice, and if in visa, they’ll report to USCIS immediately, too
???
As long as you do it in a virtualenv you’re safe
conda install
"at will employment" is a California standard
Also everywhere else except Montana.
Generally, if they want to fire you but can’t find anything blatantly wrong, they’ll PIP you to get rid of you.
In older tech companies they do this though layoff
Yes, it is normal to say that in the contract, and yes they will still do a PIP to fire you so that they have better legal coverage. I have seen that phrasing in all the companies I have worked
