A recruiter reached out to me about a role at a company the isn’t a direct or indirect competitor of Amex as it’s in an entirely unrelated vertical (healthcare). After I asked the salary range, suddenly the recruiter says ‘I’ll get to that but I found out 5 min before the call that the hiring manager just left Amex and there’s a non-compete cool-off PERIOD before you could be hired because of that, so sorry but I cannot consider you for this role at this time. So one of the next logical questions is ‘how long is the cool-off’ and she said she didn’t know. She said she still wanted to talk to me because my background is solid, and she said I could be considered for other departments within that Company. Is this plausible? They’re not a competitor nor are they building a proprietary product that’s similar to anything Amex offers. I was really disappointed because the salary and benefits were amazing!!
It sounds like a non-solicitation clause, not a non-compete. Basically if a manager/lead leaves it prevents them from getting ICs to also leave for the same company.
Non-solicit. But that prevents hiring manager from poaching directly (reaching out to you to apply, referring you, or interviewing you , not a recruiter from reaching out. Unless what happened was the hiring manager suggested your name/referred you. You can look at your own hire paper work to get an idea of how long the non-solicit lasts.
I’ve never seen or met the hiring manager a day in my life. Amex is a huge company, but I totally understand the CYA
Why is PERIOD capitalized
Lol I was using the mic since some of my keyboard letters aren’t working. Apple lines are too long right now.
Ok, this makes A LOT more sense!!
