I don’t feel the hate towards Oracle or OCI that many on Blind seem to. I’ve met some outstanding people in my time here, and also dealt with some of the uglier politics that I’ve seen anywhere in 12 years. It’s all balanced out, I guess. There’s tons of interesting work at Oracle and in OCI especially. My biggest concern is really Oracle and OCI’s long-term viability. Can’t seem to get a straight insight into OCI’s growth and numbers. Oracle’s FusionApps I hear is a nightmare, though seemingly no worse than many competitors. Database seems solid but I also can’t tell if we’re competitive in the NoSQL spaces. And Google is...well, it’s Google. I’ve never worked there and don’t know anyone well who does. Just going off of reputation here, I don’t know what it’s like. Not getting into TC numbers. The Google opp is a little higher, leaving it at that. Really sick of the TC GTFO stuff.
What’s your read on the team you might join? Not every team in google is great. If you’ve got a good thing going on and the external opportunity doesn’t get you super excited or a lot of room to imagine, I’d not move
In addition to getting the broad G perspective, have you talked to people in department's outside OCI? May be worth deferring to get a better feel for O across the board. G will wait for you for a very long time
Haven’t talked to Oracle broadly. I’ll look around though, thank you.
If Mondays seem like a dread, leave your team, but not if you're aiming to switch teams at Google within a short time after joining. If you are, maybe you need to reevaluate what you want vs the reality.
IC5 at OCI, L6 at Google. I am not an engineer however.
Keep in mind scope and potential for career growth (I.e becoming manager, director, etc). You for sure will have more scope in OCI than you would at Google. Yoe?
Find someone who works at google and see if they will have you over for lunch and a quick tour. And tc or gtfo is standard if you want help/advice around here.
Got it. I’m not an engineer so my TC is lower than the norm around here.
Sharing your TC helps the general community. You might also benefit because people can let you know how much room you have to negotiate.
