A recruiter contacted me for an opportunity in Sydney Australia. They offer 130K + super bonus. Don’t know what super bonus is. Is 130K base good for Sydney?
Yes AUD. What can be an amount which I can negotiate without much battle for 10+ years of experience.
Sydney is a very expensive place, equal if not more expensive than SF. Should try for 150k+, super bones is kinda 401k but the employer pays 100% of it, standard is 10% of salary.
What do you make in USA
145K + 15K bonus
Then don’t even think of going to Australia for $130
Super will either be 9.5% or 10%. I've seen the former more often. Source: live in Sydney
It is expensive to live anywhere nice in Sydney. I prefer Melbourne as rent can be half as much and wages are the same. 130 is about right for senior dev here, principal/architect can make around 160. Super is compulsory 401k.
I think you should negotiate. You can definitely push for 155k base in Sydney. Sydney is expensive
130k isn't anything to sneeze at for Sydney. Take a look at http://wagesage.info and the Hayes Salary Guide for a better idea. What you should also note that Australia is a lot more laid back than the US. We have 4 weeks of paid annual leave and you're not expected to put in as much overtime as Silicon Valley companies are known for. The beaches and weather are also some of the best in the world. The only thing really going against Sydney right now are housing affordability and the lock out/nanny states laws imposed by our current state government, but hopefully they'll be voted out next year.
You won't be struggling for sure, even if your wife can't get a job here. If she can, you'll live well. I'd recommend going for it just for the quality of life and see how you feel after a few months.
What was the result?
AUD? You know minimum wage is $18 per hour or $40k for a mc Donald employee. So you will make 3x a mc Donald employee.
And slap a higher tax rate vs US on top that.!
Nah, it's the same rate as federal+state.
