Started job at FB in MPK <6 months ago and I hate it. Accepted a startup offer because the team seems solid and the founders have exited $100mil+ companies before. Only thing is I was too afraid to negotiate (I know, I'm stupid.) How bad is this offer? Still haven't quit current job but I really want to, since I don't like it here and the new job seems a lot more exciting. Startup Offer: Base: $95K TC Equity: 1% No Signing bonus. Office is in Santa Monica, I'll probably live in Culver City or something. Single dude, no kids, .4 YOE. I'm thinking maybe it's not such a bad deal b/c of my low YOE but I can't tell. Thoughts, Blind?
What’s your role?
The bigger question is what made you believe in the founders besides they have priors? Do you believe in the problem that they are solving. Did you check what’s the current valuation of that 1%? Is 160K TC in fb or just base?
Uh this is awful TC. Just interview elsewhere and leave Facebook for some decent TC
Absolute shit tier TC for LA. You won’t be able to afford Culver or SM. Last time I interviewed with startups there I was able to pull around 140-160k base. That was 2 years ago. You got awfully lowballed my dude.
Alright, thanks man. I’ll see what I can do from here.
For reference as a new grad working for a big defense company near LAX I was given 85K ( defense pays the lowest in our industry). For LA I would recommend not take anything under 100K even that isn’t that much rent is a lot in nice areas and you typically don’t have much options to live depending where in LA your work it’s hood or luxury.
Base is low. Equity is probably okay maybe.. how big is the swe team at the startup?

TC progression. Estimated to hit $1M+ this year. AMA
Stage of the company? Your role?
SWE, pre series A
pre series A is not going to have any cash to pay fair market. you should not start a job when you’re unhappy. it’ll be embarrassing but you need to negotiate again. be willing to walk away.
