25 years old, 3 YOE living in the Midwest, TC 124-138K remote, 8 hrs/day, with 2-3 travel days per month.
For reference that translates to around 215k in Seattle.
I think I'm doing alright!

Calculating equivalent comp based on the TC/COL ratio is misleading. If you're saving the same percentage of your post-tax income in Kansas and COL is half of Seattle's, that means you are literally investing half as much money per year even if the ratio is the same.

Redo your calculations to figure out how much you'd need to earn in Seattle to invest the same amount after taxes. I guarantee it's not $215k, unless you insist that the only way to live a good life is to pay a mortgage on a large house. Keep in mind that WA has no state income tax.

Interesting. I'll do some rethinking on COL adjustments!

COL adjustments are so stupid sometimes, there’s a lot of assumptions on what stage in life you’re in and your spending habits.

I also have 3 YOE and there’s absolutely no way ~135k in the Midwest is 215k Seattle for me at least.

Would 215 be too low for you living in Seattle?

Where in Midwest? It matters because as you know, WI vs. IL vs. IA makes a lot of difference.

I wouldn’t enjoy ft wfh but this seems great for Midwest. I only make 60-80k more than u in Seattle as SDE2
