Apple has always been about flash over substance, convincing their followers to spend more money because their designs are so hip. With the recent leaks of the square camera bulge, has Apple lost its way? Are they starting to prioritize function over form? What does it mean for the trend setters and chasers that make up Apple's user base? Are they going to continue to buy an ugly inferior product just because of the Apple brand?

Thoughts?

They need to change the look of the phone ever so slightly with each generation so that people notice you have the newest one

Ipad, MacBook, Apple Watch are killer devices. There is literally no competition to these devices. You must be an idiot to think otherwise.

I mean, a lot of things suck about android but the ecosystem isn’t one of them. There are a lot more apps on android for every purpose, and side loading banned apps like emulators is a huge benefit.

And i have an apple device (phone)
For tablet I would almost certainly go android

      OP
Everytime you take a picture that isn't a selfie? Putting it facedown on a table to show off that beautiful Apple logo? Holding the screen up to your face to unlock it?

A lot of time the bump will be exposed for others to see. Most iPhone users bought their phones as a status symbol. Will people still buy an iPhone with an ugly status lowering bump when there are much sexier phones in the market now?

until Android's can match iMessage and group chat and solve the green bubble problem, wealthy people especially in the US will buy iPhones (unfortunately including me)

Do you have a bing search triggers on Apple news? At least bing is being used somewhere.
Also why not try applying and getting into apple and stop being sore a$$ about feeling like a loser. Do you use Android? Then be happy in your world, you’ll never buy apple products anyway 🤯🤯🤯🙀

“Apple has always been about flash over substance” is a delusion. Sorry. Some of their ‘flash’ is becoming commodity as others follow. But you can’t discount their history.

Of course this square isn’t a fashion statement on the outside. But likely the next step in revolutionizing computational photography, and they’ll find their ‘flash’ there as well, opening up more personal creativity.

Pixel 4 also has a square camera bump. Let's discuss this after the actual products are out.

Apple has been “doomed” since about 2002. In the meantime they became the biggest public company in the world

    So here’s the thing.
Apple made a horizontal camera that looked weird (iPhone 8s). One year later every damn manufacturer did the same.

Then Apple makes a vertical camera that looked even weirder in leaks (iPhone X). And guess what. Every manufacturer copied it! They still do!

Apple also made an ugly ass notch that made people go “wtf is this shit”. And no points for guessing what the manufacturers did after.

Apple knows that people will buy its products. And that more companies will try to copy Apple to get other people who can’t afford iPhones buy something that looks similar.

The sales might decline but that’s because the phones work so well that even after 3 years of usage they’re super quick. It really makes no sense to upgrade if you have a perfectly functional phone.

And I work at Google (so I’m biased towards android and was an Apple hater), and I use a Pixel 3, used one plus 6t in the past and also own a iPhone XS Max and I can tell you without any doubt that there’s a certain fluidity in the iPhone experience, a premium build quality and an amazing app experience that Android cannot rival.

    Apple’s safe. Don’t worry about them 😊

I recently switched to a Samsung and I really enjoy the Android ecosystem more so as it's basically like having a pocket PC where as iPhones are very functional and great UI, but their innovation is years behind the competition. Outside of phones, that giant cheese grater PC is 6K list where I built my own PC that is vastly more powerful (and colorful) for half that. It feels like ppl are now paying a premium for apple products with mediocre specs but very nice design.

Base specs are 32 it's expandable up to all those amounts as it's a massive casing that houses up to 4 GPUs and a shit ton of SSD bays, if you go the 1TB of ram route you're paying close to 10K. And don't forget it's 1K just for the stand 😉

Some other phones are also going with the square camera bump. It’s the newest trend. At least Apple isn’t doing it 1 or 2 cycles after everyone else.
