facial recognition technology hooked up with facebook? this is because liberal california laws. Law enforcement is still living in the 80’s. As long as this guy has a fb or instagram account the cops could easily figure out who he is instead of having to ask the public for help. Technically its very feasible, but judicially not allowed. https://twitter.com/lauraanthony7/status/1183888579962920961
Privacy is far more important than catching criminals
It's California, crimes are highly encouraged

I think this privacy vs. insights from aggregation trade off can be solved with homomorphic encryption. Thoughts?
That's a very naive view. On one hand, we hear people talking about BLM and there's news about people getting shot in their own homes by officers, and on the other... That's not even a fraction of an argument.
Do you want to give up freedom of speech because you have nothing important to say? Do you want to give up freedom of the press because you don’t care for reading? That’s the dumb-ass argument you’re making about privacy.
Have you heard of the 4th amendment?
That would hurt their voting base.
The outrage is phony when you don’t understand the context. SF struck down an existing law because it was written back when facial recognition was literally in its infancy and applying the law as is with today’s tech would be a complete free for all. And the cops weren’t even using it even though they totally could have. The ban was preemptive once the flaw in the law was pointed out and the cops were totally fine with it. The law needs to be rewritten for the tech today to establish what facial recognition is acceptable for police to use. There’s clearly acceptable use of this though.

And we head down a path where privacy will be illegal.
I heard street crime disappeared in China
I have nothing to hide. If it reduces crime in the Bay Area I’m all for it. Currently the Bay Area is the best place to go if you do crime. Cops don’t do anything because legally they can’t. You could sell drugs in front of a cop in SF and they won’t bat an eye.
