Hi, I recently received a job offer from Microsoft Consulting Services. Just because I know people will ask: Base salary 116k/ bonus 20%/stock ~15k TC ~154k I'm currently employed at a startup where I make around the same money and the work is interesting (I'm in the blockchain space). I just want to hear some people's opinions - is getting Microsoft in my resume worth taking it? I don't have a cs degree, and I've never worked for a company of that size or reputation, so in some ways I feel like the job would lend me some legitimacy. Has anyone worked for MCS, and if so, what was your experience? I know the travel can be intense. Anything I should know about? Background on me: Based out of North Carolina (the TC is high for my area), around 5 years experience, decent developer.
Blockchain space hahaha
Lol, it's a slow distributed database. With a lot of cryptography thrown in. It's got neat applications, unfortunately the hype surrounding it is KILLING those. People who talk shit about blockchain should take 30 minutes and research ACH/ how money moves currently. https://engineering.gusto.com/how-ach-works-a-developer-perspective-part-1/. Go ahead, do that and tell me that a "slow" distributed db isn't revolutionary.
Better for resume than what you got. Take it.
Did you accept? Was the job title Consultant from the beginning or did they change it on you?
Cash seems low, even for NC. what level? Microsoft is great on CV(I'm there) and people go back/forth between AWS, google, Facebook and others (that I see) MCS is not well respected internally, as far as I see.
I'm not sure what payment band, the job title is just "consultant". Is it actually easy to move around inside of MS after higher? I've heard that moving is possible. I've heard bad things about MCS, and I think that the travel might get old after a while. If I get in board is there anything I should definitely do? Maybe take advantage of the free Azure certs?
Make sure you confirm level. 63-64 is senior level and 65-67 is principal (levels.fyi for more info). Not sure what lower levels are called in MCS but guessing you'd be 62 based on offer Once you get in you can look at other jobs. Lots of opps to make connections with eng, PM and other groups
