I graduated from a decent university with a degree in computer science 2 years ago. I have been working as a qa engineer since then. But I don’t really like the work I do. I want to switch my career to a software development engineer. However looking at my resume nobody considers me for development roles. What should I do?
Switch the dev role in your current company first?
A few options I've seen: join a startup and they'll let you do as much as you're capable of (transition); or go back to grad school and you have a career reset; or simply just apply as SE... I like the startup options. If you have referral for top tech companies and Ace their coding interviews, they wouldn't care less. I was a QA too... It's a lot easier than you think
There's no lack of dev roles. Maybe your resume, portfolio or online presence sucks

Contribute to open source. I joined as an Dev and I didn't realize how many skills I have learnt being a dev until I switched jobs and have to learn different tools for the same skills. So try to get a mentor and ask lots of questions on sw dev forms. Switching from QA to Dev is hard but it is doable.
