You go to an orientation in the morning that's basically just a few hours of propaganda. Like they show you these old Apple commercials and ask you to describe why the products are so amazing. Then they'll tell you some scary stories like about the guy who posted a pic of his lunch at Caffe Macs on Instagram and got fired. At the end they'll give you a water bottle that says class of 2019 and maybe a T-shirt as you exit the auditorium at about 11am and your manager shows up to take you to your desk.

Lol, why is this so accurate, and why is it so relevant across different FANGs?

Will you be coming to Cupertino for the orientation or is it in Texas?

      I’m “class of 2019” and definitely did not get a t-shirt 😤😂

      Yes, it’s usually day 2.

Day 1 is “8am” until noon-ish. The first hour is waiting in line to get your picture taken for your badge, then a lot of waiting around while everyone else does the same. Around 930ish we filtered into the auditorium for the feel-good / don’t share secrets videos and mini presentations from various groups. Ended around 12/1230, received badge and water bottle upon exiting auditorium, manager waiting outside. Went to lunch, went to office to get hardware, did a basic set up and left around 2.

Day 2 was “getting started at Apple” which is great for those completely new to Mac and/or those who used Outlook at their previous company. This was 830-12, had lunch in the cafe afterwards and went home. You may or may not need to stay / drive to office, I personally did not.

Day 3, time to work. 😂

@yayarea, yeah, if I didn’t have to pay back the sign on and the relo package costs, I would have quit first year, no question. I ended up in the hospital due to a panic attach from being over worked/stressed and just unhappy.

    • Apple / Design Watchout!
I just came from a higher position in a smaller company. Thought I needed to work for Apple to say I was the best of the best. I thought I would walk into a place that had the best training, the best tools, the best processes the best people the best everything. I found out the first day it was sink or swim, which is fine for young people or people who didn’t come from senior management positions with ~17yoe. Then first week I found out it was a sweat shop, and not about how smart you are it about how many hours you work and how you much absolute BS you can tolerate. Problem is I am an extremely high performer and I am now finally being compensated enough where it’s tough to leave, but I have been 100% lookin since the day my 1 year prohibition period ended.

I wouldn’t worry so much about it. Honestly, have seen a few people struggle, but the hours aren’t THAT insane. If you are competent you will be fine. I’d say may first nine months were a whirlwind of having to learn the product but I came from a totally different industry for 8 years so I was kinda starting over while being expected to be fully independent.

I don’t know what it’s like in Texas but it’s pretty sweet here in Cupertino. There are a lot of websites and tools for Mac and iOS that Apple employees use that aren’t made available to the public. It’s a pretty normal place to work. The only thing is that there is a lot of secrecy/privacy. You’re not supposed to talk about what you’re working on to people who aren’t working on that. There is a big database of “disclosures” that all the Internal tools use to prevent employees from accessing stuff that isn’t related to what their working on. But if it is related to what you’re working on it’s easy for your manager to give you the disclosures
