Just got a verbal offer from Lyft. They mentioned if I accept before 03/29 equity will be in terms of stock units, but if I accept the offer after it will be in terms of $. Any advice? Current offer (before negotiation) is 170k base, 10k units, 15k sign-on, e4 level. What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining a company right before/after IPO?
Yoe?

Why would you leave FB for Lyft? Curious to know your reasons. I wouldnt.

If you believe the stock is going to pop post IPO join before. If not. After.
Do you believe so?
I think both will happen. An IPO pop, and then a, erm, ...not pop...
It seems like units > $ in your case . Long term price will probably stabilize a bit instead of exploding because everyone might be waiting for Uber as well before jumping into Lyft Post ipo, there will be initial pop, which would mean you get less stocks per $ as you would sign immediately after ipo. So 10k stock units is good value even if it looses 5 10%
If I were you, I'd take 10k stocks. Given the bull market and the hype around Lyft/Uber/Airbnb, I'd expect the stock to at least go up for 6 months v/s 475k/~65 stock units.
I had an L4 offer from them. The numbers were very similar to what you quoted, also pre negotiation
I believe price will pop after ipo in this hot market
It’s a “hot” market but don’t get too close to the flames
People have been saying that from 2015. I was one of them. Now I realized instead of predicting the market, just go along and reap benefits in long term. Ipos are really hot. Most of them pop over 30% on the first day. So op is better of getting stocks now
What is your current FB tc? Def. lock in the 10k stocks at old valuation if your TC goes up. You have to wait 1 year after IPO to cash out, so think about how bullish you are about the industry.
What did they claim 10k units is worth?
Around $400k according to last valuation, but they’re aiming for $62-68 initial IPO price
It should be around 500k right ? I remember it was 47.5 $ per share last November...
