I will be joining Uber soon in San Fransisco. I was debating whether I should rent a place close to work or rent a place far from the office and buy a car instead? Or maybe use public transportation and save some money. I am single and I will move to SF in a few months.
TC?
Live closer and get your life back! And plus no public transport—> why not just uber?
Totally depends on the lifestyle you’re interested in having.
I want to live in a small nice apartment and would like to walk to work if possible.
Why the heck do people ask TC for the second comment? Isn’t there anything more to ask or recommend?
Or is it what Blind is for? Am I missing something?
I assumed they want to recommend something based on my TC :)
Ideally, to make the transition smoother, it’s best manage a few changes at a time. So, if you can afford the rent near work, then do that for the first year while you get to know the city and settle into your new role. Then you can decide if you want to move further out.
Good advice!
Thanks, is SOMA a good place to live in?
Live in west Oakland and take BART. You’ll save $2,000 a month
Don’t get shot!
is Oakland a nice neighborhood? How long is the total commute to work?
SoMa (downtown) if you prefer living in the urban core, want to live within walking distance, and don't mind paying up; otherwise try one of the neighborhoods along the Bart line where you'll find better value and peace of mind at the cost of a relatively short commute.
looking at the listings of the apartments in the SOMA area there are some really nice apartments but people say that the streets are not great. I wonder how is it so expensive then
Soma kinda sucks. Look at the Mission or Nob Hill if you want a better neighborhood feel. All of streets of SF are kinda sketchy
It depends on which office you’re in. 10th market or 3rd and market, unless the mission bay hq is opening soon? Mission bay is nice
I live in the East Bay in Temescal. My friend at Uber lives here too. It’s super convenient if you’re close to the Macarthur Bart station. 6 stops or so at the Bart and you’ll be at work. I live in a sick loft in an awesome area and spend roughly $1000-1500 less a month on rent for a comparable place. I also have a car with free parking and life is infinitely better than when I lived in the city.
How long does it take to get to work?
To Uber 25-30. To Lyft 35-40. Depends on how close you live to the bart station of course.
Why not just ....... Uber
I wish I knew what that means lol
How did they hire you?
