July 15: The New Black Friday?

Looks like more companies are having their own sale during Amazon’s Prime Day. Target and eBay are included. I wouldn’t be surprised if more companies jump on the bandwagon next year. Great for consumers I guess, but how do people working at the companies feel about getting ready for yet another big sale?

And if you plan on shopping, where would you choose? My vote is Amazon. Sorry Walmart. 😅

Who cares. If we get actual deals, great. And why would you only limit yourself to Amazon just because you feel some loyalty to them? I promise you, Amazon doesn't feel the same loyalty to you. Whoever has the best deals, buy from them. If you actually want their junk, that is.

I wish I knew do people truly feel this strongly about them to speak about them in an almost religious way referencing them in random conversations or are they all to terrified to do anything other than conform. I’m not saying their bad. Just the intensity around them is a bit much.

To be fair; I actually am a fan of Amazon's leadership principles. Once you see Amazon's customer centricity, you realize how much other companies suck at it. That said, if Target sells an Instant Pot for a penny less, I'm buying from them.

It'll have to be already a couple dollars less to make up for the effort typing my address into the Target website would take. But agreed.

    • One Black Friday. Only. That starts on Thursday. Thursday afternoon now. Accompanied by one Cyber Monday. And one Amazon day. That is two days now. And not only Amazon.

Screw all, not worth the hassle.

AliExpress is really good for certain things like cell phone accy etc if time is not a concern.

I bought a Car Dashboard cell phobe holder for $2 incl shipping very good quality for the price, similar options on Amazon were $14.99

I used to work in retail management and during Black Friday, stores would become a shit show. I've wondered what it's like for e-commerce companies without brick and mortar stores. I'm sure prepping for and even monitoring these events can be time consuming and stressful, just in a different way.

At the end of the day, even during Black Friday / Prime Day retailers still make money. A lot of.

You think consumers are getting a good deal... I feel retailers get a better one ;)
    Jul 1 3
    • eBay CAG5OS
True, retailers also gain from the sales but what about the employees who actually have to carry out the work?

Buying junk you don’t need just because there is a sale on is not how you stay wealthy either.

I feel we should not buy stuff we really don’t need just because they are on sale. One thing is they end up putting us in debt or take away our hard earned money. Finally amazons wear-house working conditions are horrendous. I am not saying reject amazon altogether, it’s not possible in the modern day. But audit carefully if those items are really needed or if you can get them locally in the driving distance. If not go for amazon. Don’t ever pay for prime. Just remember our “prime” is someone’s nightmare.

I used to manage people who pack boxes in a massive fullfilment center for Amazon. I can tell you prime day and few after are the worst days. Hell it's a shit show for managers for hourly employees cause everyone will be pushed far from the limit. I have seen people passing out because of being overworked.

Wherever I get the stuff I need for the lowest price. And if the price is closer like a few bucks, whichever is convenient and fast and easy returns. I like Walmart, because they really want you to keep a product they sell only if you like it. Their 90 day returns is much better than any other return policy out there.

No good deals in past years unless you pay annual fee for prime

  • Too much consumerism. When a company can start a new market trend due to its influence, i tend to abstain.

I love prime, but i will shop on a different day.
