Everyone I know (including myself) had a much easier up leveling when they got an external offer, than working in their company towards promotion. Also external offers provide much higher TC than internal promotions' TC adjustment. Is this true for all FAANG? Is there any financial reason (read benefit) people stay in their company for 4+ years? Just trying to hear from people to make sure I'm not blindly eliminating a reason to stay. TC: 380
My reasons for staying at amazon are certainly not financial
Then what's your reason? Culture?
Jump period
In my case it was easier to get an external promotion than the internal one. So I am quitting Google soon.
Yea, that's exactly what I'm saying
You could jump ship when you want more than the current employer is willing to give you. Or the environment is not working out. Also you could demo some leadership and work things out. There isn’t a single algorithm.
But what's the point of demonstrating leadership, if you can already get a higher offer with a higher level externally? Why do you need that leadership demo?
Joining another place is an option but trying to make things work before giving up helps you to be a leader in the long run. If tc is the only metric then please ignore the advice for now
