I'm just joining Google as a L3 SWE/SRE my first year compensation is as follows:

131k base
20k starting bonus
20k target bonus
63k stock/year
25k additional comp

Total 259k

Is this reasonable year 1 compensation?

I have 3 years experience, not sure why I was leveled down like this.

L3 is the right level for your amount of work experience

IS&T (if you know apple you know it has a TERRIBLE reputation), 14 hours wasn't the norm but I was a lead and half my time was spent fixing contractor code.

It's essentially Apple's IT department, here is a link to a discussion threads about the department just so you can get a sense:

Thanks, things are looking much better at google.

You honestly cannot believe the stuff I saw there, at one point I encountered a block of code written by an IC5 who had determined whether IP addresses were even or odd with a switch statement, hard coding the return value for each address and ammending and redeploying the code every time a new IP became part of the systems purview.

The stock is prob 63k split over 4 years. Other comp is likely 401k and Heath insurance. TC would be 131+20+20+16=187 for first year and 131+20+16=167 for subsequent years. You will likely get refreshers so tc will go up with each.

Can you clarify additional responsibilities? Is this some kind of estimated on call bonus?

Yeah SRE makes good on-call money.

63k per year stock? Seems like strong comp to me.

Yes 251 over four years so technically 62.75 but minor rounding error

You sure? I think L4 make 260k+ including the target bonus. (w/ RSU at 409a price)

Don't want to be too specific, I think I nailed my interviews, got optimal solutions in all but one case, may have made style mistakes but nothing major.

Dude, be smart about this. This is good. You are l3 now and can probably get promoted within a year. That’s a 20-30% increase in your TC no?

I would never accept a down level from ICT4 to L3. You shouldn’t need to take a pay cut to join google

Compensation itself seems fine for YOE, but that’s quite a down level from ICT4.. However, since you’re switching for wlb, it might be a good thing - close to L4 median pay with L3 responsibilities!
