I am in San Diego and have an offer from one of the FAANG company . Before I accept the offer just wanted to check on what is the general feedback of schools in Bay Area . I know the location is important (and Cupertino has the best schools but one can't afford to buy property). How are private schools in Bay Area ? Any recommendations for both private and public schools.
Did the internship in Qualcomm 6 years back in SD and now in Bay area for 5 years. It takes courage to move to Bay area from beautiful SD. Overrated boring jobs, crazy traffic, very expensive house, lack of diversity (white, Indian and Chinese). Wherever you go you will just here people talking about ML, AI, crypto, ycombinator, FAANG, startup, TC.... And as far as schools are concerned, my kid is in daycare and still I was awestruck by competitiveness of parents. Swimming class, math class, karate class, soccer class and what not. Good luck with your move. As far as schools are concerned most schools are pretty decent. Your kid will know python by 10 and start SAT prep by 15.
I don't have kids in school yet but have been in the area nearly a decade and I do see mixed opinions. In general access to high scoring public schools are expensive if you want to own a home. You can check niche.com for where these 'top scoring' schools are. There are of course a lot of great private schools anywhere high earners concentrate in the Bay area.
Public schools system in CA sucks. But if you are in SD - you already know that. As for private schools - it begins around 12k a year and goes all the way up to 30-35k. Btw, traffic is not that bad here in Bay Area (speaking as someone commuting from Sunnyvale to Palo Alto every morning on 101). Definitely better than in LA.
Actually, the public schools in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos, and Cupertino are all quite good
Have you got your kids to schools in other states, like NJ for example?
Depending on where you office would be you can check out some cities in the Peninsula: Redwood City, Redwood Shores,, Foster City. And Dublin. They have several good public schools.
And it seems to me that San Ramon turned out to be the next Cupertino in terms of housing cost and schools, if you can take the commute and like the cookie cutter, deserty feel of the area.
Private: try Harker, Stratford or Challenger
The harker school or bust. If bust, then Phillips Exeter. If not Phillips exeter, then no amount of schooling will help them
I have heard that basis independent is good in Fremont. Tuition is about 24k not including after care .

TikTok Internal Situation. Should I join with huge bump in compensation?
Lol. Bay Area is too crowded. Have fun with all the bullshit that comes along with it. Not worth it more than SD, that’s a fact.
Thanks for your response. Just curious if you are in Bay Area and experienced it first hand. Also, apart from traffic , commute and high rent , what else is a concern
Too many people. Too expensive. Most of the culture and cool things that made the Bay Area unique are now gone or too expensive and then they become too crowded. It’s an endless cycle of bullshit. “No one goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”
