Why does Amazon EKS charge $150/month in fees, before compute costs, to run K8s? Azure only charges for what you use. Azure > AWS
Because they can
Last time I checked, Azure AKS is free to use for cluster management and AWS EKS was only $0.2 per hour per cluster.
Yes exactly
Google has been charging for what you use for a long time now....
Google is cheaper here and better in terms of performance???
Definitely GKE services of GCP is the most resilient and performing Kubernetes implementation.
Because Azure is garbage
Not sure why you'd expect them to give it away for free? Other cloud providers are less expensive, doesn't mean AWS should match. Anyone on AWS isn't switching over EKS cluster fees. And if you ran k8s before EKS using cops, you were paying for the extra compute anyway (and having to do the updates yourself). Maybe Fargate with EKS will be cheaper for some people, but that's 2019.
If youâre a big company like SNAP, then I donât think you care about $150 dollars per month lol
Iâm talking about startups. As in 2-3 people in their spare time. Also thatâs $150 * how many clusters you want. At least one per region.
Very few 2-3 person startups need to be multi-region. Especially ones where $150 matters. AWS has a 3 EKS limit so you're talking $450 max. If it matters, use GCP and go to a bunch of GCP events - they hand out credits like candy.
