Seeing a lot of Level numbers when people are talking salary. What are the YOE and number direct reports for these levels?
Levels is a great idea, but itβs painfully under served by data. If you work at one of these companies, please enter your $/YOE in Levels.
I donβt work at any of those companies but I see L# in here often so I was curious to know what they meanβt.
YOE does not matter at google, it is the perceived skill level
you're unlikely to find any correlation (let alone causation) between YOE and level at companies like Google and FB. I'm a recent L5 and I know L8s with the same or even lower YOE than me (I have 8 yoe) Of course L3s will be mostly people with < 3 yoe but after that nobody cares about it.
If you MUST relate levels with yoe, something like: 0-3: L3 4-10: L4 10+: L5 Would be around about right. These are the levels Google will slot you for if you come from a relatively unknown and uncalibrated company. Worth noting that if you get into Google as new grad you will probably be L4 in 2 years and L5 in another 2-3. Same for FB etc.
Thanks all for the comments/info :)
