L1 Visa extension process?

My L1-B Visa will expire in few months. I am eligible for moving to L1-A. Is it possible to stay in US and switch to L1-A without going out for stamping? During my previous L1-B renewal, lawyers advised me to go out and come back - and preferably home country to avoid Visa rejection issues.

Assuming that you finished 5 years on L1B, you will need to leave US and come back on L1A status once your L1A petition gets approved by USCIS.

Also, how can you switch from L1B to L1A without having managerial experience in your home country?

I became a manager here and know other folks in similar position who were able to switch to L1-A. So, guessing I will be able to move too

Ok. Technically it is not allowed. But if you know others at MSFT, I guess you will be fine.

Yes - ‘if he was a manager overseas’ then it is fine.

If you move to L1A while being in USA you will loose your leverage to get GC within 1 year..
