L3 google lowball
I’m an L3 at Google making 190k TC with 2 yoe. I am feeling so depressed because my TC doesn’t even break the 200k barrier and I also feel like I should have been leveled at L4. Also I was not able to match with a machine learning team which is what I really wanted. I really hope to get promo in 1 yr to L4 and then try to get onto a machine learning group with a 20% project. But people say that is really hard and the Ml teams are more competitive. I am so depressed, please help. Should I do a PhD?

You are doing good for 2 yoe. Be happy with what you have kid.
Don’t forget that refreshers will add up and your TC will rise steadily even without promo.
How much refreshers can I expect if I perform at EE?
2 years, 200k income, working at google, hopelessly depressed. get a grip. get off blind and see a therapist.
Haha you are not getting L4 at 2 yoe. I know people who are really really good who got leveled at L4 after masters and 6 years experience..
That’s not bad at all. L4 hired is usually 2-10yoe from industry even from fang sometimes.
A PhD will get you L4.. Then you’ll be paid the same or less than what you get as SWE with extra years experience, except you’ll miss out on the income during PhD.
You are doing good, there's more to life than TC and work. I learnt it the hard way.
Google is very middle of the road salary wise. They know they can lowball and people will still work there. TC 232k
