Next two steps HC then Vp. I have good breadth of experience (not just SW) and have team leadership experience with a reference from google to confirm that. Yoe 14. Masters. Q1: whats a fair TC nowadays (+ breakup if possible) for L5. Q2: I will most likely reject L4. What should my steps be if I get low balled to L4 or low balled in L5 offer? I didnt interview with other FAANG yet, no competing offer, and recruiter knows that. Q3: Can i ask for team lead as L5 from prospect teams? Is it possible to join as team lead? Does that change TC offered? Q4: can you list top platforms/firmware/embedded teams at SV where there is good career growth (im willing to work hard) and interesting projects? What if the interviews go well , would that lead to a better offer ? Or Even with a moderate to bad interview , and counter offer - you get top offers from google ?

Q3: TL is just a tag. There's nothing associated with it. No more TC no more respect. Some manager tag TL some don't and they are effectively TL. So just forget about it you are gonna take 6 months to ramp up.
One thing most people won't consider is that the counter offer from your current employer can also count if you play your cards right. Good luck OP!
1. Google offers are not great. For L5, expect low 300s, or even high 200s in worst case. They wont move unless you show other offers. That is how google do. 2. From what you said, you might be stuck with L4 offer; google downlevels aggressively. Recruiter will say "its top L4 band and you will be promoted fast" which is a lie. If its L4, just reject them; they won't budge. If it's L5, say you have other offers. Lie if you have too. If they ask for screenshot, say they are verbal offers. 3. No. 4. Depends on what you are interested in and what your good at. Google is a huge company.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Q1: 300-380k depending on interview, competing offers, and experience. Most likely to be in the 330-350 range. Q2: no competing offer means they will fuk u. Dont trust recruiter. Idk why they like playing this game. Q3: rarely and def not as a new hire unless u are well known in industry. Usually lead is L6+. Q4: stay in money making orgs
