It’s $240 TC which is top of the L5 band. In fact its pretty close to L6

eBay Confusedd Jul 14, 2018

Isn't that ~210k (150+140/4+107/4)? Or am I calculating it incorrectly?

Google Shaktiman’ Jul 14, 2018

80k and 60k are year1 and year2 signon bonus respectively . Also, 107 is probably no of stocks with vesting schedule 5/15/40/40.

Amazon egzfhkkn Jul 14, 2018

Year 1 tc (150 + 80 + 5 stocks) = 239 Year 2 tc (150 + 60 + 16 stocks) = 239 Year 3 tc (150 + 43 stocks) = 228 Year 4 tc = same as year 3 Definitely low ball for 10 yoe. This is top of L5 band so keep in mind you won't get much in annual compensation review unless you get promoted to sde3. Its good offer for L5 but low for 10 yoe. They probably downleveled you. If you don't know Amazon vesting is 5/15/40/40. And base cap is 160.

Amazon does not assign levels based on years of experience. You can be 10yoe and still be pretty mediocre

GE ptLV22 Jul 14, 2018

Yeah I don’t get why everyone on here mentions YOE like that should be the main factor. Once you get past a few years the gaps will widen and YOE means much less.

Amazon Hola!?! Jul 14, 2018

It’s not a low ball offer, quite strong for L5. Don’t look at numbers posted by people who joined 2-3 years ago and saw huge stock gains and thereby increasing the TC. Eventually everyone will be normalized, for many that starts with 2020 grants. We don’t know if stock will keep outperforming, but it may happen and existing employees will get paid more than new joiners

Amazon Jfk19 Jul 14, 2018

Amazon has an army of sde2 having 10 years of experience.

Paperless Post vster Jul 14, 2018

May I ask how's the base like for SDE2 10 yr experience?

Amazon Jfk19 Jul 14, 2018

This is near the max for sde2 Seattle. They cap base at 160 so 150 leaves some room to negotiate or get some base increment in yearly appraisals

Uber DS Lang Jul 14, 2018

It’s going to be hard to renegotiate level though and looks like you tapped out at L5. That’s why it’s important to establish expectations of what level you are being hired in as before or early in the interview.

Amazon Ulub72 Jul 14, 2018

You can’t renegotiate the level at amazon. If bar raiser said you are 5 - as long as something can’t persuade him that is it. Also won’t be able to reinterview for l6 for a year I think , only for another l5 role.

Amazon Hola!?! Jul 14, 2018

Yeah but @DS Lang is talking about setting the expectations right early on and being more informed on leveling, what level you are being interviewed for etc. you interview for L6 and get L5 then you know you didn’t meet the bar for L6 or should I say “raise the bar” in Amazon terms. It makes the decision easy to walk away if the level and $ doesn’t work for you
